A nonprofit academic medical center, owned by the Orthodox Archdiocese of Beirut and is academically affiliated to the University of Balamand.
The Ophthalmology specialty at Saint George Hospital was established as an independent department in 2011. Currently it features the following sections:
- Operating room facility with state of the art equipment to treat all kinds of ophthalmic surgical pathologies including : cataract, glaucoma, corneal transplant , retinal surgery, strabismus and pediatric eye diseases
- Outpatient clinics equipped with advanced examination tools for a complete ocular evaluation
- Diagnostic ward with all the technology needed for assessment of anterior and posterior segment pathology
- Medical team that includes attending staff in the different subspecialties of ophthalmology in addition to the resident staff covering elective, emergency as well as consultation services in the hospital
