The Medical Record Department is responsible for maintaining and safeguarding complete and accurate records. It supports the current and continuing care of the patient, the hospital’s administrative programs, health services research, quality management programs, legal requirements and patient services. The department plays a key clinical role in decision making and financial reimbursement, depending directly on the information contained in the Medical Record.

The Medical Record Department works also with members and committees of the medical staff and other administrative departments to develop services and procedures to facilitate the timely completion of the Medical Records, the effective communication among the professionals involved in patient care, the secured use and release of medical information and safeguarding of the records against unauthorized disclosure.
