health tips

May 05, 2016

Improving hand hygiene practices in all surgical services through the continuum of care, from surgical wards to operating theatres, to outpatient surgical services, is the primary focus of this year’s 5 May campaign.

Clean Hands Saves Lives

1. Infections in hospitals affect 1 in 25 patients on any given day. You can STOP the spread. Wash your hands

2. Studies show that healthcare providers perform hand hygiene less than half of the times they should

3. Researchers estimate that if everyone routinely washed their hands, a million deaths a year could be prevented

4. C. difficile forms spores that are not killed by an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Stop the spread of C. difficile by washing your hands with soap and water

5. An adequate hand hygiene would take 20-30 seconds only

6. Patients are in your hands… see what’s on your hands

7. Always remember the 5 moments for Hand Hygiene
