Back Phlebotomist

Key Responsibilities: 

♦ Performs blood sample collection according to the phlebotomy Policies and Procedures. Includes, identifying each patient according to IPSG Policies & Procedures, checking the bar code labels and reconciling with the requested tests. Prepares necessary equipment and explains the phlebotomy procedure to the patient. Labels specimens in the presence of the patient while still in the collection procedure
♦ Rotates on different wards in the hospital to perform safe phlebotomy procedures for inpatient requests. Includes generating laboratory summary before daily rounds. Transports back the collected samples to the laboratory
♦ Performs PPD injections and instructs patients on reading time
♦ Weighs and dissolves glucose for Glucose Tolerance Test and performs breath test collection
♦ Performs proper hand hygiene between each patient according to IPSG Polices & Procedures and adheres to Safety and Infection Control rules and regulations
♦ Instructs patients on self-collecting specimens, such as urine and stool and hands them the required materials
♦ Receives samples from the hospital orderlies in the receiving area of the Clinical Laboratory, scans the barcode readers of each specimen, and dispatches the latter to the relevant sections of the Laboratory
♦ Continuously replenishes all material for Phlebotomy Procedures in outpatients’ cubicles and fills phlebotomy trays for specimen’s collection from inpatients. Includes placing the adequate quantity of tubes, alcohol swabs, needles, and sharps disposal containers

 

Job Requirements: 

♦ Completion of secondary (12 years) education
♦ 6 months On-The-Job Training
♦ Good communication skills with ability to connect with various types of patients
♦ Fair knowledge of written and spoken Arabic, English / French
♦ Basic computer skills
