Back Cast Technician

Key Responsibilities: 

♦ Applies and removes casts, spica, jackets, cast braces, etc.…in accordance with physicians’ instructions. Includes, applying/reapplying casts as needed, cutting a window in cast as required, based on surgeon’s observed symptoms and patient’s complaint, initiating charge slips accordingly and reporting to Assistant OR Coordinator. Includes the need for rotation across various shifts, covering on-call duties in a rotating schedule, and responding promptly to emergency situations

♦ Sets traction on patients in nursing units, assembles and disassembles bars, pulleys, weights, cords, etc.… as instructed by physician. Includes, accompanying surgeon in rounds, adjusting cast and traction as instructed, coordinating activity with Units' Head Nurse/Charge Nurse to ensure proper setting of orthopedic related devices and patients’ comfort

♦ Applies cast, splints and orthopedic soft goods in O.R and in the Emergency Room, under the direction of an orthopedic physician or resident., educate patients and families on cast care and symptoms that may develop from cast being too tight. Includes, alerting patient not allow cast to get wet and to any changes in color of fingers or toes, feeling of numbness, unusually cold sensation or pain, instructing patients to call for re-adjustment and recasting in case any of these symptoms are observed.

♦ Performs a variety of duties related to orthopedic and neuro-surgery procedures in the operating Room. Includes, setting-up and operating the C-arm (Image intensifier) for orthopedic cases, assisting in patients’ transfer and positioning at surgeon’s request, assembling & disassembling orthopedic tables and related accessories according to surgery type, cleaning & disinfecting patients’ operative site with antiseptic solution prior to surgery, applying tourniquet cuff to appropriate extremities, cleaning and maintaining image intensifier, reporting malfunctioning orthopedic equipment and accessories to Assistant OR Coordinator.

♦ Performs other related duties, such as ensuring availability and good working condition of equipment, including orthopedic tables and accessories, maintaining adequate cast supplies and related materials, keeping up-to-date with new trends in casting materials and techniques by attending related workshops, practicing good housekeeping, etc.…

 

Job Requirements: 

♦ Completion of intermediate (9 years) education

♦ 1-year experience as orthopedic technician

♦ Fair knowledge of spoken and written Arabic, fair knowledge of English or French

♦ Good communication and cooperation skills
