Back Director of Development

The Office of Advancement at the Saint George University of Beirut (SGUB), Saint George Hospital University Medical Center (SGHUMC), and Saint Porphyrios Association (SPA) is currently searching for a Senior Director of Development to assist in fundraising activities for the various needs and priorities of the three institutions.

 

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement and Business Development (VPABD), the Director of Development is responsible for planning and implementing an integrated approach to development that maximizes philanthropic support with all donor constituencies. This position has overall responsibility for the major gift fundraising efforts within Lebanon and the region and collaborating with the principal gifts team on donors giving at the highest levels. Responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects up to a giving capacity of $500,000 or more.  She/he actively manages a minimum portfolio of at least 250 prospects, in support of the University, Hospital, & Association constituent’s strategic goals, which include but not limited to: financial aid and scholarship grants, endowment funds, naming facilities, professorships, research, patient needs, upgrading the priorities of the hospital in terms of infrastructure, medical equipment, and others.

Basic Responsibilities:

♦ Identify fundraising priorities and devise plans and strategies to accomplish goals.
♦ Develop and execute a comprehensive revenue generation plan that includes sponsored projects (i.e., bilateral and multilateral funding), contracts, grants, gifts, corporate partnerships, with a focus on diversifying revenue streams and expanding the donor base.
♦ Identifie and cultivate new donors, sponsors, and funding sources, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies in coordination with the VPABD.
♦ Manage a portfolio of major donors and partners, including developing and implementing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
♦ Develop and execute fiscal year 2024 fundraising plan for SGUB, SGHUMC, & SPA, to include donor acquisition, prospect research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to increase revenues in support of mission and vision of the three institutions.
♦ Assists in the capital campaign planning and execution.
♦ Manage a minimum portfolio of at least 250 prospects.
♦ Create annual giving programs to support all of the SGUB, SGHUMC, & SPA’s revenue streams: Major Gifts (individual, corporate sponsorships, and Foundation giving); Mid-level: moving small gifts to larger gifts (i.e. monthly donor program); and Broad-based support: Direct mail, online giving, and fundraising campaigns through social media.
♦ Engage previous and current donors.
♦ Build strong relationships with volunteers and committees.
♦ Conduct a minimum of 300 prospect visits per year and coordinates engagement opportunities for prospects and donors.
♦ Has the ability to prepare and implement Business and Communication plans.
♦ Work closely with Faculty, University, and Hospital administrators as needed.
♦ Take initiative in identifying new corporate, foundation, government and individual funding sources.
♦ Collaborate with other development and alumni relations teams, serving as a liaison to the different schools and departments of SGUB & SGHUMC, and other constituents.
♦ Assist with other department activities when asked to do so by the VPABD.
♦ Meet annual fundraising goals as determined in consultation with the VPABD.


Minimum Qualifications:
 

♦ Bachelor’s degree – preferably in marketing, public affairs, fund development or related discipline from an accredited university. Masters is a plus.
♦ Minimum 8 years of proven success in fundraising preferably in an education and health institution, or a not-for-profit and/or international organization.
♦ Demonstrated success in securing significant funding (6-7 dollars figures) from individuals, corporations, multilateral organizations, government, and foundations with an international context.
♦ Strong experience in major gift fundraising in addition to grateful patient fundraising and experience in complex, sophisticated fundraising environments.
♦ Experience in working with high-level individual donors and corporate/foundation representatives; building donor/customer and prospect relationships and developing stewardship activities.
♦ Experience in writing proposals, grants and/or sponsorship materials.
♦ Experience in creating philanthropic case studies and donor proposals.
♦ Proven track record of achieving fund development goals; in-depth knowledge of fundraising management systems, major gift cultivation and stewardship, and grant proposal processes.
♦ Held previous senior and leadership positions in reputable institutions.
♦ Demonstrated experience in engaging and motivating groups of diverse individuals, including strong volunteer management skills.
♦ Ability to manage a large number of fundraising activities simultaneously.
♦ Strategic skills to craft and help implement fundraising plans, including strategic planning, scoping, feasibility, and campaign planning.
♦ Excellent communication skills, including writing, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
♦ Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis to inform revenue generation and fundraising strategies.
♦ Demonstrated ability to think strategically and develop creative solutions for revenue generation and fundraising challenges.
♦ Ability to work in stressful environments.
♦ Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
♦ Adept at problem solving, creating contingency plans and handling issues when necessary.
♦ Ability to balance short- and long-term projects.
♦ Ability to take initiative and achieve measurable results.
♦ Willingness to travel and to occasionally work weekend hours.
