General Information
Visiting Hours
From 10:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Children under the age of 12 years old are allowed to visit on Sundays only.

Smoking Policy
Saint George Hospital is a smoke free hospital. It is strictly forbidden to smoke in the patients' rooms and in all the service departments.

General Services
This office secures transportation (taxis), newspapers, first aid or any other services needed upon request. Call extension 1180 or 1181 for assistance.

Safe Deposits
The hospital is not responsible for any theft of personal items inside the patients' rooms or in any other hospital service. If you wish, a safe deposit box will be put at your disposal at the General Services Department - Extension 1180 or 1181.

Phone Calls
You could place an external call from your room by dialing:
Access digit 8 + the number you are calling

For overseas phone calls and faxes the General Services Department can assist you by dialing the extension 1180 or 1181 and placing your request.

If you are calling SGHUMC or any of its offices, clinics or patients' rooms:

Dial the hospital new number 1287 from any local or mobile phone or +961 1 5757 000 from overseas
Change your phone to tone
Dial directly the required clinic or office extension or the following:

          0 for Operator                              3 for Patient Rooms           4 for Clinics

          5 for Emergency Services              6 for Laboratory               7 for Radiology 

          8 for Diagnostics Lab                                                             9 for Information

If calling a second class patient room (Rooms with 2 beds), dial number 2 before the room number than the number of the bed (1 or 2) (i.e. if the patient is in room number 414, you dial 2 414 1 for the patient in bed number 1 or 2414 2 for the patient in bed number 2)

Hospital Admission
First you need to obtain your doctor's approval to enter the hospital

Then you proceed to the Admission's Office to:
Reserve the date of your hospitalization
Clear your health coverage (third party, out-of-pocket, etc.)
Other (special medical treatment, etc.)

It is better to confirm your reservation with the Admission Office 48 hours before the fixed date of your hospitalization.

Checking-out
A representative from the billing department will contact your room as soon as your bill is ready for payment, starting 10:00 a.m.

The settlement of bills is made either in cash or by certified check only. The patient could stay in his room for a maximum of one hour after the settlement of the bill.

Church Service
A mass is celebrated every Tuesday and Friday 8:00 a.m. at the Hospital's Church.

Meals
Meals are served at:
Breakfast 8:00 a.m.
Lunch 12:00 a.m.
Dinner 5:00 p.m.

The Hospital's Dietary department will cater to your own needs and will be happy to assist you in determining your daily food regimen and intake. Call Extension 1640.

Medical Records
The Medical Records Department will provide you or a designated person on your behalf with the following:
Your X-rays (after obtaining your doctor's approval first)
A copy of your laboratory tests
A resume of your medical file

Patient Services Office
If you are lost, if you need a helping hand, if you have any complaints, suggestions or need assistance in your paperwork, contact the Patient Services Office located in the Hospital main lobby on the ground floor and underground (B1) at Extensions 1610 to 1616.

PRE OPERATIVE PROCEDURES
Smoking
If you are a smoker refrain from smoking at least one week before surgery.
You are at a higher risk of developing lung problems during or after surgery.

Meals
Stop eating and drinking after midnight; the day before your scheduled surgery.

Medicines
Stop taking aspirin or any of its derivatives for one week before your scheduled surgery unless it has been prescribed by your cardiologist.

If you have diabetes, do not take insulin or any other oral pills prescribed for reducing the level of glucose in your blood on the morning of your scheduled surgery.

Your Health Status & Well Being
In case you notice any changes in your health like contracting a virus or feeling sick it is important that you immediately consult with your physician before your scheduled surgery.

It is mandatory to take a bath at the eve or on the morning of your surgery


ADMINISTRATIVE & MEDICAL PROCEDURES BEFORE YOUR SURGERY
Patient Services Office
This is your first step for preparing your formalities. A welcoming patient services team will be in charge of preparing your file and will direct you to the designated departments. At this stage the following steps will be undertaken:

1. Information related to your health insurance or health coverage will be compiled
2. You will be directed and if needed accompanied to the diagnostic service departments (laboratory and electrocardiogram)
3. You will be sent to your anesthesiologist for an assessment before your scheduled surgery

It is advisable that you leave your valuables and jewelry at home
Pack only your personal belongings during your stay at the hospital



ON THE DAY OF YOUR SURGERY

Upon your Arrival to the Hospital
GO DIRECTLY TO THE ADMISSION OFFICE


Bring with you: The reservation slip (pink color)

And Collect from the Admission Office. Your medical file (including the results)

If the Results of Your Exams are Still Kept in the Hospital
Make Sure that You Request them from the Admission Office
Before You Go to Your Room



AFTER YOUR SURGERY

Due to the side effects of general anesthesia you might feel heavy in your head, dizzy or sleepy. Make sure that you have a companion at your side for 24-48 hours after your surgery
It is mandatory that you DO NOT drive or use any machinery necessitating concentration during the 24 hours following your surgery
It is mandatory that you stop drinking any alcoholic beverages for a period of 24-48 hours following your surgery
It is advisable that you refrain from making any critical decisions or sign any legal documents related to matters of consequence
It is preferable that you stay home for a period of time as determined by your physician. Being bed ridden may not be necessary

Contact your Physician or His/Her Designated Assistant in the Following Cases:

- If your body temperature reaches 38.5 C or above
- Continuous pain without relief even after taking pain-killers
- Inability to eat or drink due to nausea and vomiting
- Inability to urinate
- Redness, inflammation, hemorrhage or infection of the wound
- Inability to breath normally
